There is an expression, Damned if you do and damned if you don’t. Basically meaning you are in between a rock and a hard place. Finding the middle ground is tough. How can you have it both ways? Is it right to tell the truth or skirt the issue. It is said that honesty is the best policy. What seems difficult to do at first ends up being the right thing as time will bear out.
24 hours later.
I just met a lady not more than 10 minutes ago. She was a very elegant older black lady. If I’m not mistaken, her name is Carol. We spoke of the weather. Then we spoke of kids these days. We bemoaned how kids don’t want to sit down and talk to their elders about life or what they are up to or whatever. Everyone seems to be in such a rush to go nowhere. She said that we should try to speak to them, regardless. Even though we may want to share some of our life experiences with them to help them out, they are really not that interested to hear about it. If not careful, our good intentions will have absolutely the opposite effect of what we hoped for. So what do you do? She used the expression “You are damned if you do and damned if you don’t”. I then proceeded to show her what I had written yesterday at the same time of the day. It were those words exactly. I held up my journal for her to see. She squinted to read my messy writing, then suddenly broke into a bright smile. For her, it was an affirmation. For me it was a reminder that God is alive and well in my life. It helped me to write the second half of my story. By the way, she was a Christian lady. Just when we think the story is over, God writes another chapter.
